THE ROLE OF THE TECHNOLOGY AND E-LEARNING SUPPORT UNIT IN THE UNIVERSITY.

1.0 Introduction

The advancement of digital technology and the growing demand for flexible learning have made it essential for universities to establish dedicated support units. The Technology and E-Learning Support Unit (TELS) plays a crucial role in enabling academic staff, students, and administrative departments to effectively integrate technology into teaching, learning, and administrative processes.

2.0 Core Responsibilities of the Technology and E-Learning Support Unit

The primary responsibilities of TELS include:

2.1. Supporting Online and Blended Learning

·         Assisting in the development and delivery of e-learning content.

·         Offers supports in digital content development.

·         Trainings on the use of Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Moodle both Lecturers and Students.

·         Ensuring accessibility and usability of online courses.

2.2. Instructional Design and Content Development

·         Working with lecturers in the university schools to design high-quality digital learning materials.

·         Providing multimedia production services including video recording, editing, animations, and graphics.

2.3. Staff Training and Capacity Building

·         Organizing workshops and training sessions for academic and support staff on how to use e-learning platforms and digital tools effectively.

·         Offering one-on-one or departmental coaching for specific software or platforms or training needs.

2.4.  Research and Quality Assurance

·         Evaluating e-learning strategies and tools to ensure best practices.

·         Conducting surveys to understand the user experience and recommending improvements.

2.6. Digital Policy Development

·         Assisting in the formulation of digital learning policies.

·         Ensuring compliance with institutional and international standards for e-learning.
